On November 18, 2010, OPGBAC – Associação Cultural de Plectro was born, taking the acronym OPGBAC. It is a project that aims to promote and disseminate plectrum music in the national music scene. If with regard to the guitar, everything works normally with higher education courses and conservatories teaching the instrument, there is still much to be done with the other plucked string instruments. Not devaluing the others, OPGBAC has focused on promoting the mandolin as it is of vital importance in a plectrum orchestra. For the Mandolin, works were composed by the most famous names in the history of music such as Vivaldi, Caldara, Mozart, Hummel, Beethoven, Verdi, Mahler, Schoenberg, Webern, Boulez …

Since 2015 based in Gondomar, at the Centro Cultural Amália Rodrigues, Rio Tinto, OPGBAC – Associação Cultural de Plectro has several valences: the main one is the Orquestra Portuguesa de Guitarras e Bandolins (OPGB), a group that has received the highest praise for its original character. of its sonority and the interpretative rigor presented. Lately, more projects have emerged: A music school that focuses on teaching plucked string instruments. International Internships, which bring recognized maestros and professors to Portugal; and more recently the Plectrum International Music Festival.
